What do you treasure most? Why do you treasure it so much?
“Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also” Matthew 6:21. The truth of the matter is, not very many people truly treasure Heaven, because they do not know what to treasure. Some people think of Heaven as a far off place that we will eat grapes on clouds while listening to angels sing and play the harp all day. Or they just merely believe that there is no way of knowing anything about Heaven until we go there. God does not want you to think this way. He wants you to get excited about his gift that He has laid out for you when you finally arrive to Paradise. He does not want you to fall into the trap of thinking that this current world is your home. God is coming soon, and when He does come, He wants you to jump into His arms knowing where you are going and trusting Him fully.
Let Learning About Heaven Rekindle a Fire Within You, So You Will Not Be Like Lot’s Wife: In Luke, Jesus talks about the end times:
And as it was in the days of Noah, so it will be also in the days of the Son of Man: They ate, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all. Likewise as it was also in the days of Lot: They ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built; but on the day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all. Even so will it be in the day when the Son of Man is revealed.
Jesus compares His coming to two other events in the Bible. The first event is the Flood. Before God flooded the Earth He gave man a chance to repent, and to be saved. For 120 years, Noah begged the people to turn from their wicked ways and join him and his family on the Arc. Instead the people scoffed at Noah and continued in their comfortable lives eating, drinking, and marrying. Life was great as they knew it! Why try to fix what’s not broken? Oh, but it was broken, whether or not they would choose to listen to God and see it for themselves. They did not want to leave their comfort zone, and they did not want to trust God in delivering them from their wicked ways into something better. The second example is the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. There was so much evil in Sodom and Gomorrah, and nobody wanted to turn from their sin. When God decided that He needed to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah, He first wanted to deliver His children (Lot and his family) out of there. The problem was, Lot’s wife was very comfortable where she was. She did not want to leave. She did not trust that God really had a better place in store for her. Instead she looked back with regret of leaving the life that she cherished more than God, and that was when she was turned to a pillar of salt.
It is Time to Get Serious and Excited About Heaven: Jesus himself says that His coming will be like these two events. Knowing that is a gigantic motivator to get SERIOUS about Heaven, “For this world is not our permanent home; we are looking forward to a home yet to come.” (Hebrews 13:14). When He comes to take us home, I will look up confidently knowing that I AM going to a better, funner, way more AWESOME place than here on Earth. A place where there is no sin! We are supposed to be excited about going to Heaven, so that when God comes we want to jump into His arms so He can take us there! And how do we get excited about Heaven? We learn about it. We study it in the scriptures. Heaven is an extremely taboo subject, but it should not be! We should be talking about it daily! We should be meditating on it! It is so important to seek Jesus, and I believe part of that is seeking out His Kingdom. Jesus Himself tells us to “seek first His Kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” (Matthew 6:33). I want to clarify that I am NOT saying that if you do not learn about Heave you are going to Hell. My point is that learning more about Heaven will give you confidence in going with the Lord when it is time… That is why Jesus tells us to seek first His Kingdom and His Righteousness.
Let Learning About Heaven Fuel You in Spreading the Gospel: Another really important reason to seek heaven is to strike a sense of urgency in your heart in preaching the gospel of Christ. Even if you are not in agreement that we are living in the end times, take it from someone who knows first hand, life here on Earth can be very short and fragile. My sister went to be with Jesus at the age of 20! No one in our family expected that, but it was a wake-up call to all of us. Our time could be anytime, and the same goes for the ones you love. I praise Jesus that my sister Bree knew and loved Him with all of her heart while here on this earth. I am able to confidently say that I WILL see her in Heaven. Sadly, I know some people in my family and loved ones in my life that I would not be able to confidently say the same. Knowing that life is short, and believing that God is coming very soon motivates me to no end to preach to my family and the ones I love and show them the love of Christ. Andrew and I want to see all of you in Heaven with us, and our prayer is that by reading this there would be a fire struck within your heart, that you would yearn to learn more about Heaven, and that you would gain an even deeper desire to come closer to Christ.
How Do You Get to Heaven?
Everybody Dies: For those of you that do not know Jesus, you may be wondering “how do I get to Heaven?” There is only one way to get to Heaven, and that is through Jesus Christ. you cannot earn your way, nor can you buy your way to heaven, nor do you get a free pass for being a “good person.” If we try to be righteous without Jesus, the Bible says that even “…all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags;” (Isaiah 64:6). The penalty for sin is death and eternal damnation. It is easy to think within our hearts that we will never have to face death. The thought of death itself is very scary if you are looking at it from an unbeliever’s perspective. But Psalm 49 speaks clearly on the subject of death and those who fail to truly recognize it:
Their inner thought is that their houses will last forever,
Their dwelling places to all generations;
They call their lands after their own names.
Nevertheless man, though in honor, does not remain;
He is like the beasts that perish.
This is the way of those who are foolish,
And of their posterity who approve their sayings. Selah
Like sheep they are laid in the grave;
Death shall feed on them;
The upright shall have dominion over them in the morning;
And their beauty shall be consumed in the grave, far from their dwelling.
How to Avoid the Second Death: Death is unavoidable. The question is, what happens after death? In the Bible it talks about the “Second death” which is the destruction of the soul. “But for the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.” (Revelation 21:8). Please read that verse very carefully. You do not need to be a murderer to go to Hell. Have you every told a lie? If they answer is yes, you are a liar. If you do not believe in Jesus Christ, that makes you an unbeliever. Nobody is worthy of entering Heaven and avoiding eternal damnation by themselves “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God…” (Romans 3:23). You must accept that you do not live up to God’s law. You must also believe that there is a price to be paid for your sins. I plead with you to “… take heed, so that the thing spoken of in the Prophets may not come upon you: ‘BEHOLD, YOU SCOFFERS, AND MARVEL, AND PERISH; FOR I AM ACCOMPLISHING A WORK IN YOUR DAYS, A WORK WHICH YOU WILL NEVER BELIEVE, THOUGH SOMEONE SHOULD DESCRIBE IT TO YOU.'” (Acts 13:41 [Caps not added for emphasis – they are written this way in the Bible]).
You Can Still Be Saved. It is Not Too Late!: There is good news! Romans 6:23 clearly states that ” …the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” The only way to avoid damnation (an eternity in Hell) is by accepting Jesus Christ’s free gift of salvation. God loves you so much that sent His only Son to die for YOU! (John 3:16). He does not want you to die! He wants you to live eternally in Heaven by his side. He was willing to be crucified on a cross in order to purify you from your sin. Jesus Himself tells us,“Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.” (John 5:24).
In order to go to Heaven, you must admit that you are a sinner, ask Jesus to be your Lord and Savior, and accept His free gift of eternal life. You must believe in your heart that He is the only way to get to Heaven, and you must ask for forgiveness for your sins. No matter where you are in life, no matter what you have done, it is not too late for you to accept Jesus Christ as your Savior. Paul was on his way to imprison Christians for their beliefs when he was confronted by the Lord, and 3 days later he accepted Christ as his Lord. He then went on to become a Bible hero speaking the gospel wherever he went. If you are having an affair, if you are a murderer, if you have raped, if you have gone through life hating everything you thought God was, it is NOT too late for you. Jesus loves you. You are His child, and He wants to forgive you and embrace you into a new life, an eternal life. Please, if you have not accepted Jesus as your Lord yet, I beg you to now, before it is too late.
Please pray with me,
“Dear Lord Jesus,
I know I am a sinner. I know that I am not worthy to enter the kingdom of Heaven. But Lord, I believe that You are the everlasting God, and that Your Holy blood that you shed on the cross can wash away my sin. I believe that You died for me and rose from the grave. Please forgive me for my sins, Lord. I accept you as my Lord and Savior. Thank you for dying so that I may live. I love you Jesus. Amen”
If you prayed that prayer, I am so happy for you! Praise the Lord! I am so happy that I am able to spend eternity in Paradise with you! God bless you, everyone. I hope you enjoyed the reading. Tomorrow there will be a guest writer posting! My wonderful Husband, Andrew Lowen! He is going to write about what Heaven is like based on scripture! Get excited… He is working really hard on it!
